Master of Divinity

The Master of Divinity (M. Div.) is a three-year, full-time programme, comprising 90 credit hours. Students may opt to complete the programme on a part-time basis.

The M. Div. is an ordination degree required by mainline and some independent churches.  It is designed to equip students for church leadership as pastors and ministers.  It is a prerequisite degree for postgraduates studies.

Thus, over the course of the programme, students are required to complete the following subjects:

  • Old Testament Introduction 1 & 2
  • New Testament Introduction 1 & 2
  • OT Book Study 1 – Pentateuch / Historical Book
  • OT Book Study 2 – Prophetic / Poetic & Wisdom Literature
  • NT Book Study 1 – Gospels
  • NT Book Study 2 – Pauline Epistle
  • Theology 1, 2 & 3
  • Pastoral Theology & Ministry / Pastoral Counselling
  • Theology of Mission / Contextualized Theology
  • Asian Religion 1
  • Christian Education
  • Christian Ethics
  • Christian Spirituality
  • Church History 1 or 2
  • Greek 1 & 2, or Hebrew 1 & 2
  • Hermeneutics
  • Homiletics
  • Marriage & Family
  • Research & Writing
  • Spiritual Formation
  • 5 Electives

Hebrew 1 & 2 or Greek 1 & 2 are mandatory for those pursuing the M. Div. programme.

Students who have demonstrated competence in academic writing in the Turabian / Chicago style format can request a waiver of Research & Writing Course but it must be replaced with another course or elective.

As part of the programme, students must complete an internship that includes weekend ministry at an assigned church throughout the duration of their studies.

Graduation requirements:

A minimum GPA of 3 or B is required for graduation.
A completion of 60 credit units (20 courses) for theological Bachelor degree holders with a GPA of 3 or B.
A completion of 90 credit units (30 courses) for non-theological degree holders.
